I work for a US company on H1B status. Recently my wife applied for H4 visa and her case is pending saying that I had insufficient documents. one of the requirement is to provide I-729. I have never heard about this form. If anyone can tell what this I-729 is, I will really appreciate it. The consuller has given me a page long checklist of documents that i need to submit to get H4 visa. He wants me to provide every single items on the list. I would like to know if anyone of you have gone through the same process and what is the best way to approach?

Hi Chyantu, I-729 means "approved letter from the USCIS for H-1B". I-729 is written on the top right hand side of the "approved H-1 B letter". A copy of this must be either with you or with your employer. For US Visa in Nepal: you have to have I-729, marriage certificate, marriage photos, your bank statement, your tax return documents (if you have), and your wife's certificates (for supplemental purpose). Good Luck

hey chantu --
you have to send her your original form I797C which is a approval notice of your h1b visa. Make sure she gets it back from consular after the interview since you need that for travel. Along with that -- Marriage cert. is must and attach your most recent pay vouchers (for last three months), take some of your wedding cermony pics. That should do it. Its better to add your employment letter also,,,but its not a must.

Hello Chyantu,
I am in a similar kind of situation. Even in my case they asked me to submit additional documents to process my spouse H4 visa, for which they provided a checklist. Most of the info they asked for are related to my employment like work photos etc, which I submitted 2 weeks back when I was in Nepal, Just came back this week. The embassy has all the document I submitted and my wife's passport. I am hoping they will issue her H4 visa ASAP and have my fingers crossed.
If anybody else are in similar situation please update on your case. Specially, if your spouse got the H4 visa or not.

In my case they have kept all the docs to make sure if docs provided by my wife are genuine. According to the consular many small companies and their employees have started furnishing fake documents for working visa interview.
I am not sure how long they will take to check the genuinity of my documents. Any idea how long it takes for decision ?
