I am a CISSP, and have been actively maintaining it for ~9 years. It was paper based (PBT) when I did it, and believe it is 'CBT only' now. Some of the topics are dry, and some are irrelevant to InfoSec; you'll just have to accept them the way ISC2 wants you to think and approach (at least for the duration of preparation and the exam!) If you have been in the industry long enough and have experience around some of their Common Body of Knowledge (CBK) domains, which are part of the exam pre-requisites anyway, you should be fine! ~@~
