Recently about two and half month I am at California with my family from Nepal. In Nepal I was Civil Engineer (B.E) with 4 year experience in related field including teaching in Engineering college. When I came here at Cali I found IT field is quite better than civil engineering but still I am confused what should I do further to get better job either civil or IT field. Please let me know what should I do and what are the process? Hope to get suitable response from you. Regards Bikram Rijal Santa Rosa,California

I suppsoe you have green card .
Please do whatever you like and what you are good at. Hence, i strongly recommend you to apply related Civil Engineering jobs. I hope you also had other Civil Engg jobs other than teaching only in Nepal. (No offecne to teaching jobs:-) )
Pleas try your luck on following:

Dont hesitate to relocate ypurself for the first job/project.
Dont get frustrated if you dont get job/interviews ASAP.
Best of luck my friend. Be good do good. Welcome to USA.

I suggest you to take FE (EIT) exam, Since you don't have US degree, it might be very helpful for u in

FE - Fundamentals of Engineering. This is requirement to get PE (Professional Engineer) license.
I think once you pass FE you will be EIT (Engineer in Training).

here is a sample for FE: Civil

Like someone suggested above, it was the first hit on Google. People will help you but it's on your benefit (you will get information quickly), if you just Google things before you post.

Find the info here.

Most of my friends who graduated in Civil Engineering works in IT. To get h1b approved they take 1 or 2 computer science classes. Database or programming.
