You made me feel my hair....hahaha.....Thanks god it is soft as always.Chimse eyes....may be you met a Syangjali Magar..... DP.

Dharan is developed ..hmmm in what sense? i have been to dharan and seen it with my naked eyes....if drinking beers, wearing mini skirt, smoking, blasting the music, guys with long hairs with piece of cloth wrapped up in their hair is developed ..then oh ya..it is way developed than Palpa.... congrats for the development....i have nothing to say..... palpali are gaule and pakhe....hmmm they will teach u dear how to be civilized....I wonder if u have ever been to palpa...or just saying this and that w/o any experience....

Darjilingma pani parda Dharanka ketaharule chhata odne garchhan. They are copy cat. They make copy everything from those Dajs. Like Amamammaam ni ho ... ... ... Rattttttan diyo ni ta ho ... ... ... Limit down garyo ni ta ho Shyangjalile ta Dharani moraharulai ... ... ... Dajsharule padheko yi mora Dharaniharulai basaaune garchha. They have no there original culture. Dajs haruko g*lamuni paint fatera dulo pareko dekhe bhane yiniharule afno new paint katera g*la muni dulo parne garchhan. Thukka mora ho. Euta original culture dekhaau ta. At least In this case I agree with Sanu & Swaati that we Shyangjalis, Palpalis have our own original Nepalipan we are the heart of NEPAL.

hey sanu, i totally agree with you about dharan. it's a nice bazaar and it's got a great location right at the base of the hills, but it's full of nakalis! the terai is india jasto. the himals are tibet jasto. which means the pahaar is the truest part of nepal. and in that region, palpa is clearly the most wonderful and beautiful district! famous as the old magar kingdom, palpali dhaka (thank you kunti moktan, for your beautiful song), palpali karuwa, one of the few districts in nepal suitable for growing coffee, and the only district in nepal outside of the valley with ancient woodcarved newari windows. excellent climate and an unbeatable view of the himals from srinigar. no place in nepal can compare with all that!!!

"the terai is india jasto. the himals are tibet jasto. which means the pahaar is the truest part of nepal.", Palpali gaunle ji, would you mind elaborating on that... I read it as a sweeping statement about "truest part of nepal".

i just mean the terai has a lot of indian influence and the himals have a lot of tibetan influence. not that that makes it good or bad, it just is. there are alot of indians living and working in the terai, it is largely hindu and the home of most of nepal's muslims (outside ktm), and it is similar to north india in topography and climate. the himals are the home of many displaced tibetans or nepalis who practice tibetan buddhism and have languages similar to tibetan, such as the sherpas and tamangs. the hills is where the balance is achieved! don't get me wrong, all parts of nepal have their magic and their beauty. and i just said that about the hills to emphasize my point that palpa is my favorite place in all of nepal. not that there really is one "true" part of nepal. i have nothing against either the terai or the himals, for they are all parts of the same incredible country! one of the things that makes nepal such an amazing place is that it IS so diverse and has such different people and lifestyles in each of its regions. but palpa is still my favorite. i hope that makes more sense.

I read it as a sweeping statement about "truest part of nepal". I totally agree with palpali gaunle. With due respect Sitara diz, have u read a book by Dr. Harka Gurung, "Social Demography of Nepal". I think u have toi read that one but not latest 2 edition which were published in 2001 and 2003. You have to read which was published post Prajatantra 2nd time around. There u will get what palpali gaunle is trying to say. Its so amazing how a foreigner smell it knowingly or unknowingly but its goes right beneath our nose. U really have to get in hold of that book. That is the book that made Dr. Harka Grg to run for his life from Panchayati system goverment. I used to have it but it was in torn and tattered. I tried to keep it as it is but i can't. Just give a look on that and u will find what palpali gaunle have said. with peace and love lil sis Swaati

Hey lil sis Swaati: In referring to Palpali Gaunle's post, I was calling attention to "truest part of Nepal". The superlative used in the context is loaded because it is highly subjective. To elaborate my point, let's take a different perspective: Which is the "truest part of US"? Boston... because of the Boston Brahmins? California, because of Hollywood? NY because it symbolizes the mecca of US capitalism?Jametown... because of the early settlers? Surely not TX and or New Mexico... because of too many Spanish speaking people... or is it just good old TX, Nevada, Arizona because it was where the cowboys rode into the sunset????! You see, one sweeping generalization does not hold true for all of US and neither does it hold true for Nepal. Hence, my curious query. As for Harka Bahadur's book, I have not read and I am leery of any one anthropologist/sociologist who would choose one beautiful place from a whole country to identify as "The One" (if he has done so in the book).
