New Yorkers ...................?
the most polite people in the world??????????????????????????

Then, I think it is the high time that the meaning of "polite" should be changed.

As far as nepalese goes, it's just the language barrier ;) (It's a joke!)

Humbleness or politeness is not a culture; it is a character which should be developed. This development process varies from person to person. For some people, this process may never start at all due to various growth inhibiting elements such as ego, narrow-mind etc. And for some people, the process can be really slow and may never reach the full maturity (We can blame this on our materialistic world). Finally, for those people in which this process accelerates in tremendous velocity, maturity is achieved with the death of self-respect.

I think my theory about "social pressure" (in my above post) gets along with the list of most polite people in the world. The more freer the people are, the more polite they can be, because they don't have the pressure in their head that shows in their face and in their behaviour. Most New Yorkers, as we can imagine are free mined people.

anyone who's been to NYC knows how rude people are there. Maybe rude won't be the right word but unhelpful could be. I'm surprised by the result.

There are many illegal workers in NYC. And most illegal workers come from background with social pressure (again my theroy in above post). There is drastic difference between being rude and being unfriedly.

Rude from dictionary

1. Lacking the graces and refinement of civilized life; uncouth.
2. Lacking education or knowledge; unlearned.
3. Ill-mannered; discourteous: rude behavior.

Unfriendly -

Not disposed to friendship.

Why Nepalese people rude?

Answer would be:

(1) They have Education But They DO NOT have quality Basic foundation of Education.

(2) Their parents are corrupt, crook, criminal mentality... So they never ever learn good manner..or civilize manner even they have higher degrees.

(3) They 99% came from or growp up in corrupt and uncivilize culture and societies - " Jasko sakti Usko bhakti ", so even these Nepalese people go to Mars or other planet, they keep their BAD MENTALITY AND BEHAVIOR in other planet. They will never ever change. Therefore, even they came to USA and educated, they will not change ever and never.

Do not quite agree with the Western values stressed judgement in Eastern cultured cities.
Aba Arab ma gayera hand-sake garena bhanera rude bhanne, Nepal ma gayera greeting wa farewell kiss deyena bhanera rude bhanne bhaye mero bhannu kehi chaina.
Taipei, one of the friendliest city lai pane western glass le herera rude bhanedeyechan, lau ja, we Nepalese are friendly people, pachdi kura kate pani...

http://www.yahoo.com/s/340600, atleast we are not in top of the scofflawing around UN HQ. It does show why we are rude and divisive as we as ambasadors behave so..in our own capacity.

wht is the definition of rude???
jasto desh testii besh baneko suneko chaina aba nepal ma garera why doesnt everyone smile at everyone banera doesnt make sense its not part of our society to smile and greet everyone and plus i find that so fake(even thought i do it all the time)

also depends on the individual and how they have been brought up

I have a different view, those rudeness were measured in terms of saying words like thank you and pleases. Rudeness were measured in terms of holding the door and keeping a smiley face. Rudeness were measured in terms of hugs and kisses. Which is not aplicable to neplease culturally. We have our own way of being polite. We always ask for a tea when someone comes to ur house. We welcome strangers. We may lack some body language gestures but we are kind and humble. In other words we are polite in our own unique way.
