Friends, I have made loads and loads of comments about Nepal's grim Political and Economic situations in Sajha previously. And many of you have done the same in the capacity of being a Nepali. Today, I don't want to talk about the dirty politics. I don't want to raise fingers at others. I want to ask myself : Am I a Nepali? or Was I born in Nepal? or Do I have a some connection with Nepal? Does the name of Nepal bothers me at all? or I have no concerns about Nepal-f*ck it. I have no propoganda. No hidden agenda. Just to know how many of you are genuinely concerned about Nepal. Just to know if you really love Nepal. I request you, I beg you. Read this post today and decide if you do care Nepal at all or not. Trust me, this is no crap. This is no bullshit. This is no politics. I am not emotional at all. Friends from all over the globe, the time now at my place is 3.26 PM. This is the time for being vast asleep for everybody. But still I am here to write you something with a glimmer of hope that there are people of Nepali citizenship or Nepali decent whose identity as Nepali is still alive. That they still have Nepaliness in there blood. The root of this topic has been discussed in another thread. Our country's biggest hospital Bir Hospital doesn't have MRI facilities. Only 4 hospitals have them and TU teaching hospital is the only place where lower middle class and lower class Nepalis can very hardly afford to pay for the MRI scan. Those who can't pay, die an undeserved death. Among the other three, one is the Army hospital and the rest are private nursing homes that charge sky high fees for the patients. Everybody can imagine only around 10 percent of our population may be able to afford treatment at nursing homes. So 90 percent of the burden is on Teaching Hospital. This has caused chaos in our country. Nepalese are begging for mercy in the streets of Kathmandu to raise money to pay for MRI scanning. To how many could such individual begging can help to survive? Nepal needs the machine not few thousands for one or two individuals who are lucky enough to meet a media reporter. Nepalese desperately need at least one more MRI unit preferrebly at Bir Hospital. One is not enough but it can ease off some pressure on TUTH. It can DOUBLE the availability of MRI for the poor lower and lower middle class. I don't know much about medical science but at least know that MRI is a vital equipment in diagnosing dangerous diseases. It is very very expensive indeed. I gathered that there are only 10,000 MRI units in the whole world. We can assume that there may be some country where there is none of them. I gathered that it costs around 2 million US Dollars to install a good enough MRI unit at a hospital. This is a vast sum. It is difficult to imagine about the money in the first place. Friends, many of us who visit sajha.com live in rich western or east asian nations. In the countries we live, there are those machines in many hospitals. I myself have enjoyed the facility of MRI scan not once but twice for free just for some minor health worries. We are extremely lucky. But see how unfortunate are other fellow Nepalese who are safe guarding our country at such a chaotic time. They are our parents, brothers and sisters. They are our blood relations. No matter how big are our personal worries, we are very well off than them. They have very little hopes for their life. If we close our eyes at their sufferings, they won't curse us because they are so lovely people. But our motherland will definitely curse us. The need is MRI machine and that is what I am talking about now. Every body knows how appalingly irresponsible our government and political leaders are. The need of MRI machine in Bir Hospital has been raised not now but from the last 4, 5 years. Nepal as a nation could always have afforded for a 2 million dollar machine even though it is a poor country. Indeed, Nepal recieves not millions but billions of dollars as foreign aid every year. Equal amount of money is taken as development loans. Our crooked, corrupt, sinistrous, fuc**** bastard politicians could do nothing. Could not even install an MRI unit in the largest hospital of the country. But we can improve nothing by pointing fingers at them. It will be useless. This is not the time to wait for others to get a MRI machine at Bir Hospital. They waited for years and years with no avail. And 2 million dollars is not a joke. Oh my god! We Nepalese abroad have time and again tried something to help Nepal. Almost all of us may have donated at least some dollars for Nepal. We don't know if it has been properly utilised or even partially utilised. There are many flaws. So many flaws that, we don't want to waste our hard earned money for those crap charities ( although some might be doing good with our money) . Past is past. Forgot what happens with our few dollars or pounds or euros we direct debit for Nepali charities. Let's focus on to the MRI. If all the options are blocked, what remains? The option remains for us to act. How can we act? By trying to collect the money for the machines. 2 million dollars is not 'chanechune'. Probably we can never collect that amount. But why not we give a try. Lets discuss every possible means to collect that amount. In my view, that is not an impossible task. Let's setup an account where the money donated from Nepalese across the whole world can be deposited. Let's give one individual or a group to mantain the account and give full credit for them for their voluntary work. Lets put our appeal in every websites related to Nepal and Nepalese. Lets publicize our appeal from as many media as we can. And the biggest thing is let's donate. Donate as much as we can. I suggest that every working Nepali or people with Nepali origin living in Europe and America and Japan can donate a 100 dollars for this great cause. If my 100 dollars can help buy an MRI facilty for Nepal than why don't I do that? A life time oppurtinity to make a considerable difference in your country. If 100 is too much. Donate at least $50 . This is a life time chance to show that we Nepalese living abroad have the love for Nepal. Let's give our- say one day's or two day's or even a weeks earning for the MRI machine. I know many of you have already donated much more than that. But this time lets donate all at a time for 1 single cause. MRI machine. Lets show that we are capable than the inept leaders and governments. That will be the best way to teach them lessons to do good work. Some may find my idea very weird or insensible. But as I know that much more than a hundred thousand Nepalese reside in prosperous countries, only if 20 percent of them participate in the campaign, this will be a success. If there won't be enough collection for a new machine, old and cheaper alternative could also be considered. This will also unite the Nepali diaspora. And more than that we will be able to repay what we owe for our motherland. We can then make as many comments as we like against the corrupt leaders or violent maoists or autocratic king for their ineptness. Should we discuss this agenda and start our campaign soon. Please put your comments on how this target can be achived. I think, this will not be an impossible task if we are honest enough for our country. If your answer is yes for this mission, your Nepaliness is alive otherwise you are dead for the country. If you sound more pragmatic, your idea will surely be taken. But we need to raise money for MRI and we have to be ready to pay 50-100 dollars immidiately after the decision is taken. Please, lets unite together to help Nepal for a single purpose. Say yes friends, and suggest how to start this in the first place. Nepalese from all over the world, react it in the same way as the westerners do for their fellow countrymen. I may not have been good at asking for your support the way I did. But this idea has come truly from the love I have for Nepal. All of your are no less patriotic than me. Please take part in the discussion and lets try to take this challenge in as best way as we can.

Dear San dai, Ashu, Pratik, GP, Nepe, Parmendra , all the big and small contributors of Sajha ( who I can't take name of), can't we make this happen? To my sincere belief, this can happen. If we prioritise it as one of the biggest agenda of Sajha for the next few months, it will definitely be a success. We can do nothing individually. But when we all participate together, will this be impossible? If not, please discuss on this now. If we can do this, Sajha will achieve a lot. Lot more than it has achieved so far. Sajha will be a folklore. Discuss gari herau and the response in a week will certainly give us an idea. Sajha le matra nasake sabai sanga mili juli garau na baru. Just a small thought of a small fellow.

Newuser, I admire your genuine concern for the common people back home. As usual your posting was nice (though big long and vague). I am ready to help you in anyway possible. However, my own expereince working with CMRI, illustrates that it is not only an expensive tool, but something that needs a skillfull and competent technician to acquire the vital information. The machine itself is costly and come with maintainance cost, which in our Nepali condition (of frequent power failure and fupu ko dhan kasko saradya mentality) will even be more chalenging. I can help in the field of personel training to acquire the skills of MRI handling, by being a bridge to see if some short term training can be provided, if we are successfull to install a MRI machine. However as mentioned above, count me in in this pious intention but as Dadagiri bro mentioned above, it needs you "newsuser" to lead. I personally think there are other genuine areas that needs immediate attention and can be achieved with negligible cost-as an example safe disposal of batteries (heavy metal problems), educating right nutrition of adolscents and infants, danger of rising urban diseases etc.

I am totally on the side of helping. But $2 million is one heck of an amount. Can we even match it? If we are even able to reach 10,000 people and commit them to contribute $50 each (which is an optimistic number, I think), it will only be $500,000 which is less than one fourth's of the cost. I am not trying to discourage anyone. I am just trying to be realistic. Raising money of this amount is not a joke, and it is not like asking for some change here and there. As I said, even if 10.000 people said yay! and sent $50, we are only a quarter there. I think we need a longer strategy. It needs a registered agency to commit to the fundraising. A registered agency because what if when the money raises to $100,000 some dude decides to run away with it. It also needs an agency which is very committed to the cause and a definate plan. What would be done if say we raise only $1.5 million? What is plan B? Who will decide plan B. We can not have all the nepalis in the world deciding it. And yet, we cannot have one guy incharge of it. Also we need some sort of agency capable of signing agreements with hospitals and making sure that the MRI is well maintained and operated. We don't have to put it at Bir Hospital. We should be able to decide which hospital can, and will run this machine most properly and smoothly and provide the best service. Once that hospital is identified, the agency needs to work in coordination with the hospital and raise money not just from individuals, but with international agencies, donors, health groups, newsmedias, and many other groups, because, as I said above raising $2 million is not a joke. So before anyone will start writing out their checks, these criteria would probably be required: 1) A registered agency 2) An executive group with public accountability, 3) A demonstrated method (website or print media) to track progress and show updates so that people know where their money is going and how far it is till the 'goal' is met.

Here we are. Now, I can see the true picture of the Nepalese residing in the riches of the west. I don't mean Nepalis are rich and everybody are rich, na risaunu hola ni feri. Now I can see what they think about their country and what they can do if they are given the oppurtunity. In response to a call in three threads for a consorted effort to raise enough funds for a MRI machine within a YEAR'S TIME, some 40 people had the heart to write their opinions in more than 20 hours. Of them, a dozen showed some willingness to help. And only three offered to give hundred dollars from their pocket plus other possible supports (tes madhya ekjana ta mai bhae). Thanks M.P. thanks SItara, WIzkid for your whole hearted support. I salute you. and all others who at least were kind enough to help some thing to 'newuser'. BTW I was not seeking help for myself guys. He he he . I am a fool. Fool to expect such a big favour from you guys. Sajha ma 3, 4 mahina khub ramailo bhayo. Bhasan chhatiyo, bhasan suniyo. Bhasan sunda ta Nepal ma bholi strong leadership dina sakne manchhe haru ei sajha bata fatafat niske jasto lagyo. Ek se ek. J ma pani pokhta. Desh prem ta kati kati. Neta lai katnu parchha dekhi raja lai lakhetnu parchha ra maobadi ko ghati retnu parchha samma ehin suniyo, nepali haru bheda hun bhanne ta dherai suniyo. When a student working maximum 20 hours a week purposed to donate 100 dollars once and for all, sab ko sato gayo. Heh he hehe. Management ko board banaunu parchha, pahile political correctness hunuparchha, bhrastachar hunasakchha. So n so. Who doesn't know these crapy things? Hunuparchha ,hunuparchha. Kasle garera hunuparchha? Tei raja le, tei neta le? America europe ma basne lakhau Nepali le sabai jana milera 1 barsha ma euta MRI machine kinna sakdaina bhane ti anpadh netale k garna sakchhan? Anyway what has Nepal given us that we have to repay it by installing one MRI in Bir Hospital. Thekka leko hora? Hoina. But if we can't do anything it is just ridiculous to give lectures about democracy, development and political correctness in Sajha. I will shut my mouh from today. Sajha ta padhelekheka manchhe haru ko guff chutne thalo po rahechha. he he he. Anyways guys, got so angry of myself. Sorry for all this. Infact, I saw western nations collecting millions of dollars in a sigle day for Tsunami aid. I saw a single person donating a months salary for some Indonesian or Srilankan victims. I saw the Disaster Emergency Relief hotline jammed by calls of people willing to donate. But here I was thinking about a years time, not days or weeks. These people have heart for others, so their countries are developed. We have heart for ourselves, so we are developed but not our country. Gharjagga kinne paisa kaati kaati MRI machine lai 100 dollars donate garchha kasaile. Wahiyat. As for me, my parents live in a small house in my village. My brother studies in a government campus in Kathmandu. All of them plus me and my tution fees are supported by my earnings. But if somebody asks for a voluntary donation for installing a MRI in Bir Hospital or anything alike, I will give 500(if needed even 1000) dollars guys. Note down my email: destined_to_triumph@yahoo.com. And ask for my commitment if any noble idea comes in your mind. Thanks for participating in a Sajha Fantasy. No offence to anybody at all. Enjoyed the company of some big intellectuals. he he he. Sincerely, Newuser.

That is an Awesome thought NewUser. Cardinal's points are valid too. I have lead several fund raising campaigns but nothing on that big scale. I think $2 mil is possible. We have to be committed to it. And most of all, we have to believe that we would be able to gather our goal amount. If you are not sure yourself you would never be able to convince the donor that you are going to succeed this goal. I am ready to contribute whatever I can. And also I am willing to volunteer to make it happened. We can reach out Nepalese or Non-Nepalese from Nepal or anywhere in the world. To start, if we could get the pre-registered not-for-profit organization help us out in this campaign, we could use their tax exempt ID and provide tax deduction benefit for the donors. Let's do it. Let's start reaching out king to politicians to every Nepalese who cares

Just read your last comment after I posted mine...but now...I feel like it would be a impossible task not because I think $2 mill is a lot of money but because you are not strong enough to go all the way. You already gave up.. and it has not even started. No one said it would be easy to collect $2 freaking million dollars. I'm glad you gave up now than if we had started and middle of the campaign you got tired of it. Lack of commitment / determination would never take us anywhere. We all knew, it is a challenging task and down the line we all would struggle to reach the goal. I decided to response your thread cause I thought I saw that fire inside you. The fire to make things happened. To reach out every freaking people to make a little bit of difference. But I guess that was just a beer till 3am that was talking. Sorry Boss..You are too weak for something like this.

Newuserजी हरेश खानु भेन । Raising 2 mil is a humungous project. Sajha is a small place where Nepalese hangout. I think most people who hang out at Sajha are students who are themselves deprived of the cash-flow. 1st organize your campgain and find people who have made money in the US. Find networks of other people, build networks of other people. It could be possible. But expecting a lot from here is not the way to go.

Good initiative new user. I agree with Kalekrishna, the problem in nepal is also the shortage of expert people to handle medical devices. As we know today's medical field is based on technology but our 21st century government still believes that haveing Drs and nurses are enough to take care patients. There was a news in kantipur a few months back that only CT machine that Bir Hospital is not working and nobody their to repair it. This is a major problem all over Nepal not just ktm and it is hard to solved without government's initiative. Governement need to focus on Biomedical engineering sector, spend more money like they spends for drs-nurses and biomedical engineers needed to oversee these fields. You can see these links to see how bad the situation in nepal is http://www.kantipuronline.com/nepali/kolnews.php?&nid=23593 http://southasia.oneworld.net/article/view/85897/1/ http://www.kantipuronline.com/kolnews.php?&nid=11010 http://www.gorkhapatra.org.np/pageloader.php?file=2004/05/03/topstories/main6
