Hi everyone!!! Well, being a computer illiterate, I have few questions for those who will assist me for my endeavor to overcome this wireless matter at home rather one room castle. I have a high-speed internet access for my computer, but I realized why not make it wireless so that I can use anywhere in my apartment. I have recently read on somewhere, I do need a router for connecting to my modem. Anyway, do I need an additional accessories besides router. If anyone, who are familiar with this issue, could you please kindly help me on this matter. Thanks in advance... Pheri-Vaytaula... VR

yup! you will need a router and a wireless card for your laptop (I'm hope you are not getting wireless for your desktop;). It should cost you less than $50 for that.

Dear u_day!!! Thanks for such a quick reply. Ofcourse, I was inquiring about Laptop, or else my dining table could not handle the trauma of it. Just below 50 bucks sounds so fantastic; by the way, what do you mean by wireless card? Does it sell by "DELL" ??? Thanks a lot... Pheri-Vaytaula VR

yo VR, is your laptop equipped with wireless processor? centrino or some kind? if not, then you need a wireless card, with wireless router to recieve the data sent from the wireless router. make sense right? easy as that ni moola. router gives, receiver recives. nowadays, go to bestbuy, wireless G router costs about 60 or so. receiver costs about 40 around. not sure how much. just make sure you get wireless card with your router. you ll be fine, and if you want to share the connection, don't make it secure, so whoever comes around your house with wireless capability, they can use the connection. unless they download shit load and are possible to invade your privacy. just make sure, you make secure ...do whatever you like! eheh

If you have DSL or cable modem ? buy a wireless access point. Linksys makes very cheap APs. Configure your AP to use some encryption like WEP or WPA-PSK ( for making it secure) though its Web Interface. Probably your laptop already has a wireless card . If not, get a card from bestbuy or fry's. Install the driver that comes with the wireless card. Configure it to use the same security that you configured in the AP. Select the SSID of your AP from your laptop. you are all set to go Wireless. If you have a dial up ??? it can be done but a little more work. you need to install more software.

Dear All! Many thanks for everyone for the suggestion. Special thanks to redstone and bhole_babaji for sharing your indepth idea for me. I think, I do need a wireless card, since my laptop is not equipped with any wireless processor or centrino. Moreover, like you said, the invasion of my privacy by intruders, is good to know. Also thanks to no_way and AX- sometimes, in life, making stone soup makes hell lotsa sense. Good to know that people are stupid, but they are not that stupid either. Once in a while, we need an endorsement for ourselves right, just seeing how nonsense others are??? By the way, no offense hai.... Pheri-Vaytaula VR

Yeah also I was trying have an access of some other peoples wireless connnection some 4-5 mths ago when I moved to this new place( 4-5 jana mero LT ko signal ko radius ma raicha), but when I tried to get connected to the internet, I could not. I guess it was secure. But I doubt it, since couple of times I actually did get connected but it was morbidly slow & often got disconnected. Kya garera chirna milcha sikauna ho sathi ho. Haha.

Ax Bro, How about not posting any baseball, football or basektball topics either..what's ESPN or other sports channel and websites for? Nahmean ;) That is so true that postings in Sajha does not make any sense while you can get an expert opinion on ESPN.com or si.com about any sports;)..lolz.. just kidding..you will make one hell of a baseball writer one day.. :) By the way, are you ready for the NFL Draft on Saturday? Mah Boyz Cadillac and Ronnie Brown going in top 5, 1st round. Carlos Rogers on late 1st round and Jason Campbell on top 2nd round(hopefully late 1st round according to sportsline.com)...Auburn simply rules.. ;)..damn I am still depressed that football season is so far away... Alrighty .. back to my Payroll Assessment.

lol. seems me and no_way were having bad day yesterday. Honestly it still doesn't make sense. For me, I will rather do use google and get expert opinion. about draft this weekend i hear Cedric "Hummer" Benson is gonna go first then your two boyz :p I think Cadillac is going to have more success as a pro then others two. he may be the last one to be drafted among three tho. who is falcons goign to draft? i really do think they need big time recierver (draft/free agent) to play another side of overPRICED volunteer lol here's one more info regarding setting up wireless network- it's online class from HP and it's for free. enjoy it ;) http://h30240.www3.hp.com/campuses/campus.jsp?campusId=1301&mcID=ggl3&jumpid=ex_R602_UAG_go/search-hho-google-class-ho

Get a wireless router, wireless card (if you laptop doesnot have it) connect DSL/cable to the wireless router. if belkin goto 192.168.1.1 add ssid and if you want to protect your wireless connection, do the encryption either 64 or 128 bit. refresh the router. plug in the wireless card in your laptop, if you dont have integrated one. install the card. and then go to network connection. click view available wireless connection. it will show the ssid you gave to your connection and probably bunch of others if you have many wireless user around. select the one you own, put your ssid and your encryption key. bam you are now mobile. and you can use anywhere .. bedroom, kitchen, basement, front yard, back yard, bathroom and yup also while taking shower. LOL Good luck.
