nepe jyu,
seems like you have been out of touch and reality for a long time. you have been outside the country too long.... seems like you have corrupted yourself with the benefits of western civilization

in short seems like you missed prachanda's speech to UN and back at home as well.
here is a link for you

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7596523.stm

There are two schools of thoughts within your party - one favouring the People's Republic and the other favouring the Democratic Republic. Which one will prevail?

That is not the case. There is no illusion within our party regarding our ultimate goal of establishing a Socialist Communism. However, in the current national and international circumstances, we have decided to move ahead by institutionalising the federal democratic republic.

now if we do not play words and make sense of what he meant here. ultimate goal is to establish "socialist communism" .
now if you have problem with definition here is a link for you
http://www.etext.org/Politics/MIM/faq/commievssoc.html

and this would pave you with more knowledge in this area

http://www.romm.org/soc_com.html

anyway we can all see where the prachanda path is leading the country. and if the greatest friend of our vis-a-vaz southern block falls in harmony then we would see our country headed towards becoming another cuba in few years. most notably soon after general election.

and i should add all socialist and communist believe in "GODLESSNESS" they do not practice any religion. so Mr. NEPE you can keep those wishes to yourself because they sound like another of the lash towards few remaining hindu Nepalese.

Exactly.
Nepe, being such a highly educated man why would you follow a principle or ideology that surfaces categorically with different level of people with different aptitude?

Why are you trying to convince us that the "word game played by Maoist leader" is to convince their cadres. Is it a good thing to 'cheat their cadres' who didn't value their lives in the name of civil war and freedom fight?
You are "symbolically" smart ass of Maoist like Dr. Bhattarai and more who has a different code of conducts for different level of people. Is it any form of communism/socialism?

War is over and Gyane is gone. Now, anyone can surface as a leading power. Maoist should leave the arrogance and stop thinking that nepali people want communism. No way. Stop dreaming jackass. Stop dreaming Nepe.
If you really want to contribute for the country, come up with some creative idea or just leave.

ThapaP,

I could be wrong. But it is yet to be proven. Wait at least until Maoist deliberation comes after the proposed nation-wide conference of Maoist cadres or at the national convention proposed/scheduled next year.

I am hazarding a prediction that Maoist will once again re-iterate their commitment to all basic premises of liberal democracy (freedom, multi-party, periodic elections and everything) and will propose some electoral or otherwise reforms (like adopting a direct election of the head of the government, presidential system of governance, strengthening proportional representation and things like that) and will try to sell that model as “people’s republic”.

As for the jargons Maoists uses and their real meaning, you should look at Maoist documents, not elsewhere. I have been following Nepali communists ideological journey for a very long time. So I certainly know a thing or two about how they think, rather how they are confused themselves. Hence risked to predict.

Shiva,

If you are talking about my hope for Maoist to settle with democracy, I have a long observation, analysis and meditation about Nepali communists’ ideological journey to come up with that kind of niskarsha. It’s not a pure psychic thing.

I might need to write volumes to explain it, but I think/find Nepali communist confused about Nepali model of communist state right from the beginning. Puspa Lal Shrestha, when he founded communist party in Nepal in 2005 BS, was not envisioning a communist regime that would ban the already existing democratic parties like Nepali Congress, Praja Parishad and so on. Then he was for co-operation between Nepali Congress and the communist party to fight Mahendra’s totalitarian regime when that happened. Of course, Mohan Bikram Singh called Puspalal a “gaddaar” and formed a radical faction. But he never could figure out the exact form of the regime he wished to establish in Nepal. His ‘naulo janabaad’ (new democracy) was always fuzzy about how it is going to be established and how would it look like. The same fuzziness continues till today.

So it is this ideological fuzziness, unclarity, unresolve and ambivalence regarding Nepali model of their regime that I believe has to lead them all to the RUMJATAR of democracy.

They have not been able to find a model alternative to democracy for past 60 years. What are the chances that Maoist will find it in the upcoming conference of their cadres ?

Nada. So they will have to bottle the good old democracy Nepali people have become so accustomed and committed to by now, with a brand new label of “people’s republic”. There ain’t any new wine.

We shall see it soon.

NS Ji,

My quick comment: It looks to me that your thinking is like of a person who is STUCK at the PROBLEM and not LOOKING FOR the SOLUTIONS. You’ve got to reverse the order.

And as for me, I come here for pretty self-serving purposes- to share my views and to be known. Solving Nepal's problem would be just too high and too pretentious purpose.

Happy Vijaya Dashami to all !

Nepe

lots of people/organizations/parties in nepal work one way while their names may give different impression(s) about them.

didn't we think (still think), nepali congress (NC) is the oldest "democratic" party in the country? true it's the oldest one and while it may sound like they are honestly committed (for namesake) for democratic practice, there is no denying the cold hard fact that the structural behavior and actions within NC are not even remotely democratic. Same goes to many of the other parties who've been tested over and over again in the nepalese soil for betterment and progress of the country but to no avail. Ratriya "prajatantra" party (what a good name for a party), for the most part, comprise "panches" of the past. Aru ke bhanne?

Going by the same line, let's not get too petrified by the heavy communist jargons these maoists leaders have been using lately. In the least, the recent visits to UN, US and IND by the PM has given me the impression that they too want to connect to the rest of the world (not that we have any other choice).

I am not trying to imply that maoists  will be good or any better than the status qou of other parties. but the fact of the matter is: the test drive has just started and we don't know how the ride is gonna be (and we have a long way to travel). but we STILL have time. IT"S JUST A TEST DRIVE, FOLKS! the real jourey hasn't started. if we don't like the car, we have the option to NOT buy it (still). which means, we have given them two years in which time they will draft a new constitution. After that, the election will decide which ride we, nepali, want to take. (we know where to go). Kina hopeless bha ho tettikai?

so take a chill pill and be happy, if you ask me.

( i am sure some fingers are ready to point towards me to adorn me with "nice political labels", but  hold on!!!! kidding..actually go head!....as if I really care hahaha)

Loote,
I like your attitude, lets give them the benefit of the doubt for now but its different when you have to listen to the heavy communist jargon. It makes everyone believe that the maodadi version of Loktantra is nothing but disguised totalitarian communism.

Nepe,
I cannot agree with you even a bit at this point. I feel that I need to repeat my self but I wont and you have nothing to show that your faith in Maoism is nothing other than your understanding which is based on your past experience. I can also go on and on about my experience with communism/maoism but I wont do that.

I hope that we wont adopt China's communism which has multi-party but no opposition. Without opposition there is no democracy. China claims that it has all the necessary elements of the democratic world. I hope we will not copy-n-paste their constitution which is not even close to their red-book and call it unique loktantra.

I don't like NC and I am against their non-democratic, corrupt and inept leadership that does not mean that they need to be wiped out from the map. Opposition is a must in a democratic world, no opposition means no democracy. Hope you understand my point!

You can keep you optimism about the maobadis but for now I will be highly skeptical and be watching their every move.

Nothing new is coming out of this discussion. Lets end this tug-o-war and watch how the days ahead unfolds before us.

Like you said 'there aint new wine' I hope maobadis realize it sooner as you wish and save the nation from misery. We have suffered enough, we don't deserve and don't need it anymore.

Fair enough for both of us.

Sure. However, I think at least the issue of the ideological ambiguity of Nepali communists is pretty new topic in Sajha kurakani. In fact, this is very rarely talked about topic at all level --popular, political and academic -- in Nepal. The reason for this is that the competing political streams in Nepal have managed well with propaganda to highly politicized active mass (Communists managed to hide their ambiguity and to pretend clarity and NC camp was busy spinning communist jargons and fear-mongering ) and the scholarly study on the political history of Nepali communist has been rare or superficial.

Anyway, as we are about to find out -- within months or a year or two-- what Maoists are up to, that should put a conclusive end to all suspicion, fears and hope regarding Nepal’s political fate.

Thanks for the exchange.

Nepe

PM Dahal says his party is against Mao's type of People's Republic

Nepalnews, Oct 15, 2008

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal today repeated his party's commitment to multi-party political system, saying that the 'People's Republic' that the Maoist leaders are talking about is not similar to the system introduced by Chinese leader Mao about 70 years ago in China.

Speaking to journalists at the tea reception organised by the CPN (UML) Wednesday, Dahal said his party is not against competitive politics, human rights and democracy.

Our effort is to ensure more active involvement of people in the state activities and empowering them to have their say in national agendas, he added.

just bringing this thread back for those naive, disoriented followers of maoist who are still running after the mirage.

i mentioned around october time around what the real intention of maoist government seems to appear.

and viola last three months have added more evidences in favor of my argument. and of course "Nepe" would come and say "no no wait. they just announced that they would return all the properties."  ha ha ha !!! this is one more "shrewd" step of maoist leader in which NC and rest of the country in falling victim through. After the brutal hooliganism @ himalmedia there was a brief period in which maoist had been at disadvantage. but once again prachanda has been able to throw bones at the agitating NC.

of course after three months of declaring the return and not doing anything. trying to intimidate public and press. it is yet to be seen what would the nepotic maoist regime will bring/show/do for commoner.

once again, i am not a political preacher, follower neither have any affiliation but as a common nepali I have a remembrance of different nepal, a peaceful nepal (i.e. before 1990). it was a period, I would long to have. i would love to see. when
a. i could walk around freely, safely without fear of being kidnapped or being extorted
b. although personally i did not have/had television )O: but i also did not have to bear 14 hours of darness
c. i could travel freely to my village without the fear of intimidation and beating
d. being an apolitical person i did not have to have membership of any political party to apply to public college (namely trichandra) may be they will change that name to prachadra.. soon enough

anyway.. lets hear argument of our honorable lauerate "nepe" (O: supporting dear prachanda and the maoist movement and the "people's republic" or is it "chairholders republic" ?
