WTF is this gadimai mela. Why is 200000 animals are sacrificied. Why animals are beheaded and this blood are eaten. This is so angering. Even though I am hindu i just hate this unjustful killing. You buy and eat what is sufficient to you. Not go out and kill 200000 animals.
Ripping the throat off animals......inhuman

How can I mind my business when the barbaric animals with head are slaughtering the innocent animals without head?
Million people participated in it? Does that mean it can't be wrong? Didn't afghans also go to witness the barbaric stoning to death by talibans in the stadiums? It's in our hands to show our culture is not cruel. The whole world is laughing at us because of these bloody traditions. Even indian government has banned the animal sacrifices in many hindu temples in bihar. There was one interesting statement by an indian women in today's NPR. She said something like, 'why even the middle-class in UK was also donating to so much for disaster-relief programs in India when even the upper-class in India didn't donate even a rupee?' Perhaps the reasons for we, south asians, lying behind the human race, can be explained by these questions.
People arguing in the favor of gadimai's animal sacrifice here must be the same people in their past generations who perhaps voted in favor of "sati pratha" and gave the similar logic in the name of culture and majority following it.
We ask why we nepalese are lagging behind. The answer simply doesn't lie only in politics; it is also rooted in our culture and our way of thinking.
How can killing an animal make god happy? Aren't all living beings equal in the eyes of god? Therefore, it can only be the satan, not god.

Most of us eat meat and so do I. But, we all need to respect that some animal gave it's life to feed us. Eating meat is not bad at all. Our whole existence has been based on eating meat, just look at any pic that represents cave men. You will always see them around fire roasting hunks of meat on sticks. I don't think we were ever build to be vegetarians. Just give some respect to animals that are sacrificing their life for your taste buds. Give them painless instant death and torture less life when they are alive. Peace!

My point exactly. Anyone can talk big, when all you people who are complaining decide to be vegetarian then come here and be judgmental. I know a couple of people who posted here, and I know for sure they are no vegetarians. So relax. We will think about the animals when all the people in the world are not being killed by lunatics. On a different note, to all the vegetarians: you guys are missing out.

I am a vegetarian and i don't mean you should not eat meat. You should, but these are all sorts of inhumane acts that i see above. The culture which teaches you this primitive acts, i do believe teaches you to respect your food too. So why is there difference in the making?

Americane, I think you are missing the point here. The question is not about being veg or non veg. It's about basic human ethics. It's about the balance of nature. It's about consuming only what you need (Yes! Need !). Don't get me wrong, i love meat, but that does not mean i go out chopping off hundreds of animals for "god". Hypocrite. You are probably thinking that word about me. However in parallel world, i would be hypocrite if i was out there with one of those Khukuris.

@N Bro, Do you realize that more than half a million people go there. So its a simple math, everybody is killing what they need. The numbers just seem too big but you have to realize that a lot of people go there. You guys are complaining because a lot of people decided to do it at the same time as a sacrifice? But it would be fine if they cut all those animals at their own house instead of congregating at a place and doing it? I don't know about Americane, but I do think you are being a hypocrite.

No wonder for what Gandhi said, " A country and a civilization can be identified by the way it treats it's animals." Right on Raju161! you never wrote something so fitting before.
No wonder MK Gandhi was nominated for the Person of the Century by Time magazine. Shame on the Nobel Committee for not awarding that Peace Prize to this man. Shame on some politicians in India who have used and some are still using the "Gandhi" lastname as their brand for some selfish reasons.

I agree 100 pecent with Sexy in Sari. It is not only politics, it lies in our way of thinking. After all, our thinking is what creates the politics. No wonder we keep going back ward even though we know we need to go forward. The whole point of enjoyment and celebration is when you see happiness and joy in helping others or achieveing something without hurting anyone. I do not see any joy when you see bloodshed right in front of you and someone's life is taken IN THE NAME OF GOD. This can't be a tradition, rather a barbaric act. We are educated enough to SAY NO TO THIS SACRIFICE. India has already annulled this from their constitution and we should follow them. We need to move on. I hope this is a last festival once and for all in Gadhimai.

@Cowboys, first thing first - i did not vouch for killing to please Gadimai or any god for that matter. So before you blame me for killing animals in my house, let's know each other. And did you really think half million people (number is still debatable, but i will take your word) out there were killing to suffice their needs? You said it, it was sacrifice - which can never be justified unless you truely believe "your wildest dream will come true" via so called gods. This is not about you and me. The bigger picture is to abolish this nonsesical idealogy of pleasing god thru some sort of sacrifice. Religion is one of the dividing factors among all the people . Hypothetically, say a some other religion starts sacrificing cows to please their god; does that mean hindus should go out and sacrifice those culcripts for thier sins and please THEIR gods. On a different note though, vegetarians are definately missing out.

This is sickest thing I have seen so far. People are drinking warm blood from animals.I don't think religion teach such things.Eating meat and slaughtering animals in the name of God are completely different. Becoming a vegetration is the best thing but if one doesn't want to be vegetration then respect animals. They give us milk, cheese, clothers etc. Don't torture them. We need animals for ecosystem.God have mercy. I don't think even Musilm Extremist can beat this. Oh, my God, it almost make me puke. These people are sick. If they don't find animals to suck warm blood, then they might go after humans too.

How can anyone defend these barbaric acts?
Those of you who tried to bring the analogy of vegetarian vs. non-vegetarian. Do you denounce the culture of "stoning to death" by muslims? If yes, how about the lethal injection? The purpose is the same; but the former is considered the barbaric, but the later is not. Does it help?
Yes, the animal sacrifice done during dashain is not less barbaric than gadhimai mela. If we want to transform our society, we need to start asking these basic questions. Do you think that god will be appeased by these acts? It can only be satans, not god. I think, during dashain, we become devils and pray the satans like Ravan in the disguise of Ram. We have been praying for satans all these years, this is the time to realize it and change all these bloody culture and start praying to the REAL GOD.
If you read the comments of youtube video gadhimai mela, the same hindu people from India are writing obscene words for nepalese.
Please open your eyes.

Raju, I have also seen that movie twice cause i liked it. If you are living in kathmandu, and eat momo a lot, then you will get a chance to eat momo made of the same sacrifices that were done in gadimai. I guess you have read the news that the meat was sold to a contractor who is shipping the meat to kathmandu valley. anyway, people in kathmandu enjoy the momo of all the sacrificed animals in gadimai.....mind your own business. let them follow their tradition.

I am not defending anything. I am just saying that if you eat meat, you have no moral high ground to bash those people. Double standards is not fair. You can't say you kill them less painfully. That is just wrong. Killing is killing, there is no ifs and buts. Welcome to the food chain.
