There is no doubt that the present autocratic government led by G has to be overthroen.

I strongly sopport the peaceful movement by seven parties like all democracy loving citizen of Nepal.

However, I am DISGUSTED that seven parties are silent about the latest series of violence caused by Maoist. If they are for peaceful movement, they should not be scared of maoist, they should be clear about their stance against Maoist.

They should condemn it, and warn maoist that such violence means termination of 12 point agenda.

Or they should also join the hands of maoist and go for the armed struggle.

I think this is the double standard from parties. They can not dream of having cake and eat it too. They should be clear and honest about it. They should realize that they can not win at the cost of blood of thousands of security personnel. They (seven parties) would need all these security personnel if they get the power and if maoist did not lay down their arms. or the worst senario-against the foreign intervention. They have to applaud the bravery of security personnel. How will the army have faith on seven parties if they do not condemn the recent series of violence.

what do you guys think?

Aardvarak, if we still take maoists as Cobras and if we are determined to crush their head (King G is doing same), it will be a big mistake...We had a good chance to bring them in table and persuade them to disarm and bring them to main line while they announced truce last September. The 12 point understanding was also towards national consensus....The maoist leadership were ready to talk about their participation in multiparty democracy. Isn't it a big changes in their policy? But the government interpreted it as their weakness and intesified search of maoists in the mountains of Rolpa and killed whoever they found across...

So the whole efforts of 7 parties, national and international pressures didn't work out and the maoists were compelled to get back to their business.

The maoists were ready to talk in intermediation of UN or EC and keep their arms ( along with Nepal army) under supervision of UN and what could be the best start than this?

What was wrong to invite them for the talk and at least make some effort ? Actually, the king and his slaves don't want the maoist issues to be solved. They want it to keep going or further deteriorate so that they can continue to sideline the parties and ultimately eliminate the political parties...

The whole efforts of political parties, human right organizations, Civic Society and friendly nations to establish communication between the rebels and the government went in vain when the government did not responded the truce. So, I don't think any nations or organizations spoke or condemned the Tansen or Bhairahawa attack either..Poor soldiers and their families have been victim of the arrogance and rigidity of the King G.

But it doesn't mean that the parties or organizations are tactically supporting maoists. Just the fact is that parties and the organizations have just no words to say any thing...
Certainly there are bad people in the parties who have to be scanned and eliminated..but to charge political parties in the current situation will only help autocratic king.

If you are a supporter of democracy, let your issue be pending here and you can re-open it, when democracy is restored. In Democracy, we will have rights to speak, demostrate and use your every rights. But in King G's rule, will we?

"
Political parties do NOT represent the people, let alone the poor people.
...
...
The royal establishment does NOT represent the people either, let alone the poor people
...
...
The Maoists too are NOT for the poor.
"

#1: I don't know who these Maoists are that Ashu has the picture of in his mind.
#2: Afterall, even Ashu seems hesitate to say that they don't represent the poor.

That's all I have to say about that.

"I am NOT persuaded to take sides by the simplistic chants of "I hate the king" or "I hate Girija" or "I hate the Maoists""

Well, even "I love and want democracy" doesn't persuade you, for that matter! So there must be something about you that I, for one, don't know about!

This is where the hopeless idiots get it wrong.

They want "democracy" WITH "Maoists". How is that democracy going to work dear?

I want democracy as well, the real democracy. So for that, I am willing to wait till Maoists are crushed or brought to mainstream politics.

Maybe I'm the idiot, but how do you know it's not going to work?

I'm no Maoist by any means, but it's a matter fact that they represent the poor, the long-time neglected and disfranchised more than any other political force. This is the reason why they've survived (and thrived!). Why else you think a 50000-man strong Army equipped with automatic weapons (and *absolute power*) has not been effective against them? Guys like you need to wake up.

Violence is of course not good, but I have not yet read a credible accounts of systematic corruption in the Maoist party. I would like to hear from Ashu why he thinks that they're not the party of the poor.

"So for that, I am willing to wait till Maoists are crushed or brought to mainstream politics."

I personally see no difference in desiring the King's Army be crushed and brought to mainstream politics. Your argument holds no more weight.

I want add something...

if I have to choose between a king's version of democracy and that of the maoists, I think I would pick the Maoists'. Simply because from what I have seen, I think they still represent me more than does the king or his entourage...

Maybe I'm the idiot, but ................?

Its not a question of maybe. Its a definite yes, considering yourchildish statements.

And could you enlighten us more with your stupid ideas as to who Maoists represent and what they stand for? I wont discuss much with your views about Maoists since it would merely give validity to your absurd ideas. But its you who definitely need to wake up and smell the coffee. Or better still, get a mental check up...

Oh yeah? From where did you see that? from your comfy seat? When was the last time you were in any village in Nepal? Oh, and answers like "Once when I was a kid about 20 years ago" would make you look even more stupid here.

People like you, who tacitly support the Maoists and their evil means, and who try to support for terrorism here in public forum, shall not go unnoticed. Nepali people will decide very effectively on how to wash your blood-stained hands. You will not get a chance to say ouch, trust me.

Well, I don't have an equal command of the condescending and derogatory vocabulary as you seem to do, so I have to disappoint you by not engaging in reciprocation... You may have to find a new partner for yourself for that!

However, I *would* like to answer your questions.

"From where did you see that? from your comfy seat? When was the last time you were in any village in Nepal? Oh, and answers like "Once when I was a kid about 20 years ago" would make you look even more stupid here."

It doesn't matter where live or what kind of chair I may be sitting in! Or even whether I have ever been to any village in Nepal!

It is what my conscience sees and it is for me to decide what I think is right for me. And that is what my democracy is about. Obviously, you don't get that!

But you, not surprisingly tho, want to threaten me to NOT say how I feel. And that is YOUR kind of democracy. How do you even expect me to like that kind of a system! Haven't we had enough?!

Yes I am also saying king, 7 parties and maoists are inept and useless.

King should stop being one man army and inconsedarate of others.

Parties should kick out old farts and corrupt leaders.

Maoists should stop killing innocents.

There are Nepalese, who are creamed by all sides.

What is the use of change if it is not for good. Its a time to sideline these polticians first then deal with other powers like maoist and king.

The so called professionals and intelectuals could have really done a better job. But their bias nature is not helping the situation. They should be independent first. They should presuure maoists to give up violence, 7 parties for a leadership change, and king to go back to constitution. Nepali diaspora should have worked together to pressure all three.

But some of memebers of diaspora are making mockery of Nepal and Nepalis in foreign land with a joke like protests and gatherings.

But guess what? Nobody wanna listen to anybody. I am always right no matter what attitude is fcuking Nepal and Nepalis up.

Why the fcuk 7 parties encourage destruction of infrastructure and violence. Why the fcuk maoists do not realize that they do not have rights to harm anybody? when the fcuk king will realize to live in present than past?

When the fcuk Nepalis realize the need of discipline?

When the fcuk I will realize this shit is no use and will not bring any change rahter than just pissing me off and ruining my fcuking friday night?

fcuk u all

I know no one really cares or even listens to anybody else anymore - such has been the plight of all of us Nepalis around the world, including Nepal. With that said, in a desperate hope that some one will listen, I would just like to point out something...

1) Saying "Maoist Democracy" is noting short of oxymoron. Their whole concept is to establish an egalitarian society by forceful means. I don't see how that is democracy. In democracy, at least in theory, every man under the sun should be considered to be equal so why do the Maoists want to be the modern day hood by stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. Let's not assume that Nepal only has "poor" people.

2) Maoists are not the messiah and they will not lead us to the Promised Land. They are extremists that see fit to kill people (mostly poor people) in order to advance their ideology of political and economical control for a select few. Don't be fooled! Nepal will not change for better no matter who has the central control, be it the King, Parties, or the Maoists. Each one of them only consider their and their family’s self interests; not the interests of the country or the people of Nepal (poor or otherwise).

3) People on these posts have put the onus on the King and the Parties to include the Maoists in the process. In my opinion they are and have always been welcomed to join the mainstream, but they refuse. Time after time they have refused. They would rather maim and kill POOR Nepalis than present themselves in front of the Nepali society to be responsible and accountable. They want to gain power by fear and intimidation not by democratic election. One of the primary reasons that they went underground and started their violent and barbaric movement was because they only got six or eight seats during the first democratic election in the 1990s. The root of their violent movement is megalomania and if you think anything other than that, I’d like to know what you’ve been smoking. So the onus is solely on the side of Baburam and Prachanda to swallow their pride and give up violence and join the mainstream. If they do that, once the democratic forces in Nepal become powerful, then they can work on getting rid of the King if that is the sentiment of the majority of the people of Nepal (both poor and non-poor Nepalis).

There I have said my peace and I welocome the attacks umm I mean constructive criticism!

"1) Saying "Maoist Democracy" is noting short of oxymoron. Their whole concept is to establish an egalitarian society by forceful means. I don't see how that is democracy. In democracy, at least in theory, every man under the sun should be considered to be equal."
- Replace "Maoist" with "Monarchy" and your sentence begins to make sense.

"2) Maoists are not the messiah and they will not lead us to the Promised Land. They are extremists that see fit to kill people (mostly poor people) in order to advance their ideology of political and economical control for a select few."
- Again, "Maoists" needs to be replaced with "Monarchists" or "Militarists"

"3)... Time after time they have refused. They would rather maim and kill POOR Nepalis than present themselves in front of the Nepali society to be responsible and accountable. They want to gain power by fear and intimidation not by democratic election...."

Certainly, pronoun "they" here is indicative of the character of "Monarchists" and "Militarists" rather than Maoists.

Democracy. Peace.

Shaiva, everything I said made sense otherwise you would not see the need to respond! I am not saying the Monarchists are right but that does not justify the killings of poor people by the maoist!! TWO wrongs don't make a right!!!!

Once in a while,

Provided the intentions of maoist are genuine (benefit of doubt even after their darbar nexus has been unravelled), its their way of getting things "heard"- which primarily consist of death and destruction, that I am against of.

Seven parties should not consider the death of other Nepali, in any way beneficial to their objective. Such mayhem may be a blow to KG regime, but seven parties should restrain from fishing in a troubled water. Their movement is peaceful, and has to remain peaceful. Though it might be a futile attempt, they should keep pressuring maoist to refrain from violence.

maoist have realized that it is the seven parties that will eventually make a way for their safe political landing. It is in their vested interest that they will listen to parties. Parties should speak against their method.

myopia is what all seven parties leaders are suffering from. For a short term interest, to everyone's great dismay, they even agreed to form government under the leadership of Mandales. Why can they not stick to an ideology? While participating in 1990 movement, I never thought that NC and UML one day will work with Mandales. Now they are paying the price. I also expect a public apology from all these myopic leaders for their inept leadership that lead to present situation.

But, that does not mean Gyane has a right to intervene. Since his ambitions have escaleted so much, it is in the great interest of people and nation that we have to pursue until he is officially gone to other country as a refugee. It might be a longer route, but peaceful means are the only way to topple this neo panchayati regime.

It doesn't matter whether I have ever been to any village in Nepal!

then stop blabbering your big mouth on who Maoist represent, you miserable git. If you do not know what you are talking about, you should simply shut up your stupid mouth.

And that is what my democracy is about. Obviously, you don't get that!

Your democracy is about supporting terrorism, in a very tacit way though. That is why you are on a mission of garnering support for the bunch of hooligans who immediately went into the jungle in 2050 Bikram sambat and started killing people. Remember these words when justice will soon be brought to you and - keeping our fingers crossed- people start spitting on your face.

And there is no need to underline your every word. They dont carry any weight anyway.

Birbhadra asks:

"Ashu, how do you know everything?"

Answer:

I don't.
I never did.
I never will.

That is why, I have always said that ALL my publicly-expressed ideas/thoughts about anything are always OPEN to criticisms, objections, modifications, challenges and improvements.

In an OPEN forum, If I am wrong, I'll get corrected quickly with better facts and stronger arguments. If I am right, maybe I'll make a few people think differently about an issue.
Either outcome is fine with me.

After all, the relentless process of self-learning -- through reading, writing, observations and many stimulating conversations with friends -- goes on and on, on and off Sajha.
