I was watching television with my family, and suddenly one US reporter said, " we have again proved the world that we are the best sporting nation ". All of my family burst into laughter after hearing that.
I know so far with 30 golds US are very far behind China with 46. World knows it. So why is there a constant effort by US media to prove that they are number one sporting nation in the world. Don't make laughing stock out of yourself and accept the fact that China are the new superpower in sports.
I went through few American websites, and found that in every website they have put US on top , purely because they have won more medals ( lot of bronzes and silvers).
I have just one advice, being second is not mean achievement. That is very commendable performance. But try to prove you are still in top is ludicrous . Every American media suffers from this egocentric disease.
Funny thing is I went to the past olympics medals table on the archive and found out they have sorted out according to the total number of gold medals won. So why in this olympic they have decided to sort it out by the total number of medals won.
Don't be surprised from the next olympics if they sort out the medals based on the number of medals won in swimming pool. Because in their most fancied athletics they have been already been struck by lightning Bolt.

Well, the performance the US seems to be slightly better in terms of medal counts in this olympics than in the last one. They have managed to achieve this in spite of the strong emergence of China. The american media should emphasize this rather than putting ridiculously sorted lists with USA appearing at the top, when everyone knows that China has outperformed the US this time.
"Don't be surprised from the next olympics if they sort out the medals based on the number of medals won in swimming pool. "
nice comment...

Thats true the only way to show the Ameican dominance on Olympic sports by counting in total winning medals. Is not it this an american culture of boasting what you have than accepting others? Media people get paid fat check for this because their audience is not other world than its US market where they have to please their own audience. Someone who been born and raised in different world and naturalized later in his life in the US even does not accept this superiorism and domincism but you have to live with it because green buck and its power speaks well. Thats what I have been feeling as one of diaspora who is living in the US. There are many events I noticed how much they complain about china's gold medal winners when american could not win. For example, chinese gymanstics have been in contnious attacts by US media on their age where medias suspect that they are under age. International Olympic Committee (IOC) requires olympic participants must be atleast 16 yrs old. Chinese Gymanstics athelete won such events based on their talents and performance. You have to live with that facts and results because scoring and judging are more transparent and fairer than ever. If you win, you are okey, if you don't win complaining and whining is a bad attititute that dicourage the professionalism. Learn to admit the mistake and improve it as a way of professionalism. USA Olympic committee and its medias need to see their own face on mirror and evaluate what went wrong for not winning medals on expected events. Another event was 4x100m relay semi qualifying heats by US Men and Women athletic teams. Look the Anchor leg man and woman even could not hold grip on Baton and were ousted from finals. What a upset of US athletic track and field teams who were favorite to win Gold medal. Who should be blaime for that ofcourse noone but themselves. There are many revealing facts about Lightning bolt and Jamaicans who are on the way to replace US track and field dominance who spearheaded new dominance that will continue for forseable future. Astnoshingly, NBC host had no words on those two failures because it was too much of both teams defaulting on dues when they could not deliver the results as they expected. On the positive side for the US though Michael Phelps and his unbelievable eight gold medals record would be hard to break for a while. I don't know about you guys but I agree with someone who told me that this Michael Phelps came from future in time machine. Looking back other players, I conclude that US has well developed infrastructure on swimming sport and its dominance will continue in foreseeable future that's where US wins scores of medals and put it on winner table. If you look at Judo, Wrestling, Takwondo, Badminton, Weightlifting, and Table Tennis, there are not many US athelete as qualified as in other sports to compete. Why? Because those sports have no large audience in the US and US sports flourished only when they can make money by advertizing and marketing the super stars and olympic winners atheletes. Last but not least, I would not say US is a pathetic loser why because it is a venue where everyone who has talent can grow and achieve his or her dream. Olympians who represented the US had dreams to compete in Olympic and oneday win gold medal thats what US provide the sanctuary for them who has real talents. Other countries have not many programs and social environment to flourish such many talents to produce as many Olympians but certainly US does. US will be always winner as long as it continues its tradition and culture for sports as its been doing.

lol no quiero dude are you anti US lol i mean last time i read your thread you were saying Phelps isn't the best olympian and today this .... you never know they might have told " we have again proved the world that we are the best sporting nation" based on the total medal beside if you had watched all the game you would see that judges were unfair to US gymnastic team causing them handful of gold...and about total gold medal some might be stripped away from china cuz there are still controversies over the age of chinese player...

no_quiero bro,
First of all please chill out and don't take it too hard. I have seen you posting so many threads about how you don't like American athletes being called the greatest, how you don't like US journalist calling themselves the best team in Olympics etc etc. Come on brother! you have been watching US television, which is meant for US people and US people love their country. You have been reading US newspaper written for US people, who love their country. They will definitely write, talk good about their country. And more than that, they have proved times and again that they are one of the best in the world right now.
Michael Phelps' personal achievement itself is way better than so many other countries in the Olympics this year. Just think about India, how they have been praising that Bindra guy, when he got just one gold medal. What would they do if they had a player like Michael Phelps with them? They would make a song, a movie and probably a TV serial for him, at the least.
Now think of yourself, what would you do, if Deepak Bista had won a gold medal in Olympics? How medias were praising him as one hope for medal? Come on! this is what every country does. Remember, how we were praising our cricket team when they were thrashing minnows like Qatar and Kuwaits in ACC? And, how about all the rallies we had done back in Nepal when Nepal had won few golds in SAFF game a couple of years back, and when MPC lost the final match in Presidents Cup etc etc? It's the same thing everywhere.
My suggestion is, please don't take it too hard. If you don't like these altheles and those TV stations, just ignore them. There is no point comparing these great players and belittling their effort.
Peace.

I just see the medal tally from BBC or CNN as two different orders of presenting it either by Gold Medal Count or by Total Medal Count....... which really doesn't matter as CHINA is racking up more golds than any other nation. Whichever the presentation, fact is that CHINA is challenging USA dominance in sports world.. which i very much enjoy.

First of all let me tell you , I am not anti american. Few of my favourite players Lance Armstron, marion jones, Andre Agassi all are americans. Yeah I am not scared to tell spade a spade. I believe Michael Phelps is the best swimmer in the world but isnt greatest olympian compared to his own compatriot Carl Lewis or Sir Steve Redgrave. The opinion is entirely of my own.
But I find it really amusing that some of the US media are trying to portray how they have been best team even in this olympic. One reporter came and told that US have again proved that they are the best sporting team and won against every sporting nation. Some of the top US media are on mission to rpove that they have won the olympic and changed the medals tally that suits them the most.
A gold is a gold and even thousands of bronzes won't be able to better them. Probably thats why there are no national anthem for team winning silvers and bronzes. Even one of the US channel themselves made fun of their own news channel CNN. It urged media to just to accpet the fact rather than try to falsify its citizen wrongly .
Just look at the table. France are stilling right in between german, Australia , korea and other countries with just 5 gold.

Marion Jones? The same Marion Jones that has been stripped of every Olympic medal dating back to Sept 2000 after admitting that she took performance enhancing drugs?

Yeah the same one. But her ability was never challanged.. Yeah I was great supporter of her when she played. True she wasn't a perfrct role model and she got what she deserved.
But it seems very hard for top players to set to be a perfrect role model. Even Michael Phelps and Imran Khan (Boxer) is a convicted criminal of drinking and driving, Mohammad asif is a drug user, Warne is womaniser found caught in a camera with several models, chirstiano ronaldo is accused of insulting woman by showing a bad gesture. What about Tyler Hamilton. I used to be a big supporter of this cyclist from Massachussetts. He failed drug test in olympic as well.
Coming back to the USA, they have made a deseperate attempt to bag one gold by accusing a chinese gymnast as an underage. Think about it right, how can being an underage gave chinese gymnast an undue advantage. She after all wan't taking a drung. If in under-19 cricket or football overage players play then we can say that is cheating. But to strip the medal because he/she is below certain age is beyod my comprehension.

my thought on this.. many americans don't even bother to check or know what other countries are doing.. an american would check the so-called chart of urs presented above look at what US is doing.. n than close the window.. coz they know once they start diggin lil extra more.. the imperialism n their superiorness will be nothing more than a shame on their own butttt...
fyi...
baseball WORLD SERIES.. hahahahahah it's gawd damn american series ain't no world series..BUT. n i's a bigggg but.. americans think.. america itself is the world.. call that being a genius or a perfect example of stupidity..
WORLD HISTORY.. i took when i was in high school.. the only other country i was taught about was egypt.. beside united states.. 1) coz all the writers of the book were americans 2) they don't know that in this world we do have 163 countries ( correct meh if i am wrong).. coz that was the last count i heard about 6-7 years ago...
and it might sound obvious to you why egypt got in the mix of world history with US.. coz.. they started the writings.. n math...
all right.. time to go to work.. will add on more eventually

A part of me tends to agree with no_quiero this time although the title of a 'pathetic loser' for the rationale is just too harsh and insulting IMO. Have been watching NBC and few other channels for the past couple of weeks to catch up with the ongoing event. While it had occurred to me that it must be hard to overcome the emotion of patriotism for your participating country in great sporting events like Olympics, I wish the media could be more fair than blinded with such emotions of patriotism(?). And add to that love for your country, the controversies going around with the age of Chinese gymnasts with China being the arch rival for many a reason already....a part of the complaining (or sulking, i don't know) sounds fairly reasonable too. But talking about blind support (which as i said is obvious to a good extent), personally the US's sulking to me is better than Indian cricket commentators commenting on a live match of say India vs. Pakistan. "Aur yeh pakistani bowler ko chakmaa dekar bahut hi shaandaar chuakaa maar diya square leg ki taraf. Bahut khoob"

Loote kukur. Funniest indian commentry . During the India- Westindies Series in 1994 Jimmy Adams get hit by the ball in his balls and falls in the ground and remains there for sometime. After sometime he stands up .
Then Kapil dev the then commentator said, " Aab Jimmy Adams ki patni ko chinta garne ki kohi jarurat nahi. Woh khade ho gaye hai"
And by the way, callign pathetic Loser wasn't directed towards US players rather it was directed towards US media.

Dude, your title is US is a Pathetic looser, not US media is a pathetic looser. If you cool down your US anger little bit and think than the US media is obviously going to target US audience, not Chinese or rest of the world audience. Now I some what agree with what you are saying but as an audience you have a choice too by not watching US media, right?

Well, Jhonny its not question of watching the US media or not. I am just calling a spade a spade. I want the media to be more transparent to the public.
@ trilochana........... If somebody makes a point you have every right to agree or disagree with his opinion. But I would never resort to the language you are using to me certainly not to a girl..
