I am happy to see this results. The fear injected by maoists in the mind of rural people has by far been more influential than the politcal rhetoric. No wonder they will sweep . International community, particularly US will analysis this outcome as a failure of Indian policy - i,e "bringing Maoist into mainstream and sidelining king and other democratic forces". I am sure if maoist will clean sweep, then King is saved and watch out for democratic "coup" right after the election results. International community will never accept the results if maoists will sweep( even they will welcome from outside) .
Whatever it is is, where uneducated and poor people live, you will not get honest verdict and this is what is bound to happen..." maoists sweep sweep sweep" Had it been in completely fair election, under no circumstances Maoist would have made it. It is a fear...fear of death! Not to mention, why we saw the overwhelming crowd on the street during so called jana andolan II. Marta kya nahin karta..." YOU DO NOT WANT TO MESS WITH YCL-MAOISTS"
I am happy UML is going out of my sight, I am happy that so called great leader GPK is witnessing demise of his party at this stage of his life. He might have thought he had done good job and people will reward him, what a turned around…ha ha ha ha. GPK, you made the king scapegoat, and Maoist made you puppet. Good job Sitaula- impotent home minister for giving Maoist so much room and what else, hats off to you-Maoist, you did good job, and you were focused right from the beginning, while many other parties were confused. I recall your slogan “ Satru ko kandha ma tekera satru ko tauko ma hanne” –meaning political party ko kandhma tekera raja ko tauko ma hanne..well done!

If you guys remember the 1st general election of 2048....UML rushed to 48 seats in the first 2 days, when congress were only 23 but later congress received majority and UML stuck at 70 odd seats. So guys, i still believe it is to close to call. Don't rush to your conclusion.

i am surprised with the way maoist are leading the election results. it is surprising that they are getting so many votes from kathmandu valley as well. it is understandable that they will get more votes in rural hilly areas, but they are getting from kathmandu as well. we can not say it was not fair in kathmandu though we dont know about hilly areas. anyways, if it is people's mandate, we have to accept the outcome. may be nepali people wants to give a chance to maoist this time.

Eagle 5, I believe, there may be fear from maosit in the remote part. But I am surprised with results in valley. Overcast some of your insights reagrding high number of votes in support of maoist in kathmandu. I am egaer to hear your analysis.
I don't want maoist to win because of their killings and intimidation before elections. But it makes me surprised due to their high influence in kathmandu valley. What people want???
Are people choosing masoist because:
1) They support their principle?
2) They want change?
3) or because of fear from YCL/Maoist?

Well need to give due credit to the maoists no doubt. As i said they knew their target and they worked for it.
However, if you look at the demography of kathmandu from past 10 years it has changed significantly. Urban demography is no longer the same as it used to be during early or late 90s. That could be one reason. Another thing is KTM people genuinely democratic but alwyas inclined to leftist to a larger extent because of Congressi attitude and UML behaviour. I also doubt many of those would have swallowed the agenda of " Republic" that well. And if at all they did, why would they vote for the same old UML and NC, this could be another reason why maoists are getting so many votes. I guess this would have surprised maoists as well.
I personally firm believer of democracy and rule of law, but our country can not be ruled purely based on " text book democratic principles". We are in dire need of some patriot dictator, I guess people have realized this fact too, so if not king, then it can be " Maoist". At least, larger chunk of Maoist are " Patriot" no doubt. But their act can not be acceptable to the modern society. Guys I think we are in a " NO OPTION" situation.
My sense says, we have very tough days ahead.

It seems, maoist are heading to majority. I think, it will surely become the largest party if not win the majority. They are leading well in almost all the counts so far, and they will do even better in proportional ballets, because, several NC and UML voters have chosed them for proportional seat due to their slogan - Give a chance to maoist this time. Congress has done as it was expected to do and UML got landslide defeat. Perhaps, (as someone said) UML might need to go Jungle to re-gain its old-age attraction. Otherwise, we will see a flood of party-switching middle layer leaders joing maoist leaving UML.
The massive loss of UML is due to several reasons -
(1) overconfident
(2) its NGO-INGO loving cadres, who knows how to make sweet-talks, but no time to spend with people; who knows how to capture position in party and government, but no honest effort to serve the position.
(3) vegetarian politics - never take risk but try to grab opportunity
(4) too flexible policy
(5) failure to defend attacks against them from both extreme right and left corner.
(6) failure to understand ethnic interest and inclusive representation, they are understood like bahun's party, even if they have a number of non-bahuns, because people like pradeep nepal, modnath prashrit etc. have repeatedly hurt ethnic sentiments.

No chana, You are partially correct
You are seeing nepal from the eyes 10 years back eyes.
Nepali people are not fool this time . They are aware and know what is wrong what is right.
Despite of bitter comment of maoist activities in socalled main stream media, howeever they are biased totally.
Maoist has clear vision, menifesto and straight forward strategy than others.
They are in the fileds since 14 years but other parties hasnot reached to people door.
