FNJ prez denied US visa

KATHMANDU, April 10 - The US Consulate in Kathmandu has denied a US visa to Bishnu Nisthuri, president of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ). Nisthuri was planning to attend a gathering of journalists in Washington DC on April 21. Nisthuri sat for an interview for the visa on Tuesday.
The Consulate asked Nisthuri about Nepal's current political scenario, Terai movement and his purpose of the visit to the US, and ultimately denied him visa, a source close to Nisthuri informed the Post.

When contacted, Nisthuri did not want to speak in detail but said he was surprised why he was denied a visa to attend a talk program on the state of Nepal's media.

Nisthuri, who played a crucial role as a civil society leader in making last year's Janaandolan a success, was invited by journalists living in North America.

Professor Abhi Subedi was also denied visa last year.

Nepalese Journalist in America are gathering to form their Association here.They are expecting 80 Journalist to gather there.Isn't this enough to deny VISA of Nisthuri?

There are so many references for US embassy to deny Nisthuri's VISA.And yes, Nisthuri already achieved what he could as Journalist and there is no reason why he goes back to Nepal.

Yes,it hurts as a Nepali but do not think any flaw in decision from Consular's perspective.

Mr Rahulvai,why do you always come with populist thougt like a leader of Nepal?Why don't you assess the situation.He is applying for the VISA to attend a gathering of Journalist in DC? Those who are oragnizing or participating used to be popular figure among journalist back home.Doesn't it give some sort of doubt to Consular?

Who created this situation?Those Journalist who came here for some conference and stayed here or Consular who denied VISA based on past reference?

It hurts as a Nepali to hear such news. But,there are red flags to raise from their perspectives.

H1b, i was wondering why the number of Nepali students in USA is increasing every year by more than 20%. if consular assumes that most of the students who were granted visa earlier but never returned back home, he would not allow other students as well right? but that is not happening. so, this is totally based on individual. every students who comes here says he will return back after study but very few of them goes back. dont you think consular knows this as well?

Tmobile ,you are right.But if a student who has 85% in I Sc ,290 in TOEFL, went to good private college get denied,there won't be any issue raised coz they are not a popular figure.FNJ president is a popular figure and the name I mentioned earlier were popular figure in back home.

Consular has strong reasons to doubt,that's all what I mean.

number ,you are right.Since,Number of Student from Europe and other continent coming to USA got reduced significantly,Nepalese students are getting VISA,I guess.By granting student a VISA,they will generate revenew.If you closely analyze,Students are getting VISAS not for City area,they are giving VISA to those area which are in fact village or Sub urban area.

I am not happy to hear that Bishnu did not get VISA.I am just trying to say,there is no point solely to blame US consular.

It hurts man as a Nepali.

rahulvai ,I understand your concern.he deserves VISA,I have not doubt about that, and perhaps he will be called to take VISA.I believe, you know Krishna Kadel,Gautam Dahal and so many other journalist who are organizing this event were popular figure.I am not sure but Krishna Kadel once became president of Amnesty International or any other Human Right organization.he is very good orator,i respect him and he has every right to chose where he wants to live.

But again,I don't think,Sole responsible for this day is US Consular.

Guys,Please verify your input before giving Maoist or Terrorist tags to somebody.Of course,he is not a royalist.And all who are not royalist can't be given Maoist tag.

thousands of deserving people have been denied visa and everyday more are being denied visa. Why does this one deserve any empathy???
