We cannot measure good performance by the increase in number of students working in gas stations and community colleges. This report shows that more Nepalis are joining the bandwagon of studying in 4th tier schools and spending more money (from their families and working illegally) than ever in education they could get back in Nepal. I think the embassy should heed to this trend.

Not necessairly GOOD PERFOMANCE, but if it shows anything, it shows Nepal is trying to catch up with its South Asian Counterparts.......Mind you, India sends anywhere from 10 to 100 times the students Nepal does every year.....

I also agree that it does not indicate improvement in performance of nepali students. But more and more nepalis are getting better education and better life. Most of these students, if they would not have gone to us, they would be burning tyres or doing drugs.

It does nt show good performance. The number of applicants has increased by many folds in last few years. Most of the nepali students who completes their twelve class tries to go abroad for further study. It is very difficult to find a job even with good degree in Nepal, so we are seeing more graduate students as well. It does nt mean that performance has been improved.

It's have not improved the quality of education. However, it helps for economic and send remittance to the home country either working in gas station or grocceris shop. It doesn't matter. However, the education standard /quality has not been improving by this way of work/education. So, hopefully, student better to come in US and try to study in master degree in technical field rather than general course. It will helpful both way to reduce borden for parents, increased performance and marketablity of the jobs and help to maintain status accordingly.
Thanks
Sharma

Nepali students don't send remittence to home. They can't with the money they make without a work permit to work off campus, and high tution costs. If they dont have good funding from school, which is maybe 10% of the total Nepali students , they end of asking more money from home. So these numbers are not happy numbers for Nepalis. as a matter of fact, i see this can be a source of motivation for Nepali parents to sell their property or take bribes to send their children for foreign education. poor country like Nepal is in no position to send their children to America for higher studies when Americans in America cry out loud about higher tution costs. Dhotis are smart they only come in masters , only when they get TA or RA. Nepali students come fo undergrad , go work in OC and estes park in summer and suffer a lot. so that number is not a good performance.

Same 2 U, RAJESHKC. And, Why do you guys always talk about Indian in every matter. That's fine, but why don't u realize they are smart and capturing in every sector (from gas station to IT) of America BECAUSE they are more in numbers and came to United States very earlier than Nepalese started coming....I agree that NONE has same Idea, but I take everything positively if I see Success over there. At least, Nepalese students are standing/or trying to stand on their own. So,I would say it is very good to have more Nepalese students here in the United States. Thanks !

I do not understand, what is wrong working in gas station, you're generating income along with your education.
Some of you are acting like prince. You have shown the attitude of Supremeness, either having academical excellence or Parents sending you money for your school and living. I do not agree with academic excellence because the hatrizm do not portarit academica quality. If they choose the gas station even after finishing school, then it is not the right things they are doing. Work is work, do not bring your nepali attitude and better not to show off any places.
That is fine you did not work at gas station. I have seen many many gas attendents in various higly skilled job once the school is done. So, what???

I totally agree with NepGuyUS,
When I go through most of the threads I keep on seeing people taking abt Indians and still using slangs Dhotis which can clearly give a perception on wht kind of education u have, just think on a different perspective, without Indians we would not get all the food ingredients that we need, neither their would be any Temples out here in US, we would have not even get the job opportunities that has been created by them in different field of studies...who know Nepal....most of the professionals working in US....knows about India as compare to Nepal.....Just getting frustrated on Indians....always look at the bigger prospective.....People who studied in US...personally I tought they have some minds and are grown up......but we cannot change someone's thinking.....So its better not to use slangs...as if u give respect u earn respect.....peace....

Syanjali ji,I don't know what is ur vision on my thread and other's reply..But I haven't said working on gas station is bad or whatever..I am saying.. we need to take everything(like having more number of Nepalese over here) positively if we see success over there. And,i said if we had come earlier ,we would have done more better than this time.I wrote that because somebody above said its not good to have more Nepalese student ..I entirely agree that college life is most challenging life and if You manage everything in this life...then that is fantastic no matter how you manage it...If you see working on gas station to manage tuition and living cost (while u r student)is good, then it's good..take +vely..But we at least need to try to think in different way too. Good Luck man..

NepGuyUs,
It would be better if you change the thread title. It is not a good performance. Good perfomance is not measured in the number of VISAs. I don't think you know how hard is the life of a UG here. I have seen and experienced it. I have told my friends and familes back in Nepal to finish their UG and apply for GRAD to US.
Please change the thread title.
