What Would Buddha Do (WWBD)?

We can claim that Lord Buddha was born in Nepal, like the Indians claim that Lord Rama was born in India. So, if any experts or holy scholars still write about our great Buddha being born in India, then Dhiraj Rai should be appointed the official spokesperson to rebut their butts!

Anyway, as we enter the new phase of a 'new new' Nepal, we have to ask ourselves what would Buddha Do (WWBD) when it comes to almost everything that concerns us. Be it our squatters, both real and fake, or our new government bulldozing its way to the promised land, or just evaluating where you are in life and what you want to do to move ahead without whining about the frustration and the pollution and the destruction and the retribution and the contribution, and maybe a new revolution in your life!

In my opinion, Lord Buddha was our first NRN (Non-Resident Nepali). He was born in Nepal, went exploring in foreign lands, and achieved his goal there rather than back home. He was a prince who would one day become a King. He had all the dough to chill and enjoy like the Shahs and the Ranas thousands of years later and maybe more. But he didn't.

It doesn't matter if you are born with a silver spoon or no spoon at all. Think like Buddha. Care for the poor, the downtrodden, the vulnerable and the MARGlNalized. You don't need to be rich to serve others. It doesn't matter if you are barely making Rs 12,000 as a sales girl or a security guard in Kathmandu or Rs 40,000 a month climbing up Dubai's tallest building to wash the windows or making six figures working on Wall Street or some IT company in the West. What matters is that you care for those who make less or nothing!

I suggest a 5% charity fund from your monthly paycheck. It isn't much if you barely make the minimum wage here in Nepal, which is like Rs 19,550 per month. It's like Rs 1,000 per month. Set it aside and either save it for a year and donate the fund to a chairty you like, maybe supporting students in our plains and the hills because that is where most of the young ones do not go to school regularly due to the terrain or lack of resources. Support kids in Dolpa or Jumla or the Madhesh Province.

If we look at the data, most of the youth in Madhesh Province are in the Gulf. Maybe it is due to discrimination, lack of resources and opportunities back at home or a whole combo mix of all kind of social and economic issues. The same goes for the ones living in remote areas in our hills (which includes the mountains!).

I think the Jewish folks tell themselves that once you give, you will receive. Or is the Marwaaris or the Gujaratis? I have no idea but when you give, you will receive which might not be in financial gain but the satisfaction of helping those in need maybe or if you believe in God then he or she is watching and will help you be a better person in life maybe!

If you are making money by engaging in shady deals, then there is no point in trying to act like Buddha. Be it our shady byaparis who evade taxes, grab public land and pay their staff peanuts or nothing at all, or our old school politicians who have robbed us blind while their sons accumulate 100 ropanis of land before they reach 30 or their granddaughters celebrate their wedding like mini-Ambanis.... these people will rot in hell if there is one or it's time to bring cancel culture back for these folks and their kins!

At the end of the day, money may buy you the freedom to do whatever you like, but as human beings, we do seek validation in the form of love and respect from others. And WWBD? Forget money, love yourself and love others even if they don't love you at all!

The looteras may be billionaires and enjoy the high life. Do not envy them. Let them enjoy the loot while it lasts. Work on your personal growth. Exercise, eat right and sleep well. You don't need to go the gym and then take a lot of protein shakes and start flaunting your body upside down to get views and make some extra dough from it. You don't need to eat only Salads and all kinds of super foods to be healthy but you need the right sleep. For some, it is 8 to 9 hours and for some only six will do. You know your body and sleep accordingly!

If Prachanda really wants to ask himself, WWBD, then he would apologize for the deaths of thousands of innocent folks during his 'Red Rampage' with the help of foreign friends. He will come clean and give us all the details and the total amount he has pocketed so far in the name of Cantonment Scam and all the banks looted then and many other shady deals while in power. Then he would bring all that money via Ajay Sumargi and deposit it in NRB's main account and then repent and go back to Noida and become a RAW food salad seller, maybe.

What about Deuba, Oli and hundreds and thousands of jholeys and middlemen and hakims and sarkari karmachaaris who have enriched themselves with our taxpayers' moey and from extortion and bribes? It's the same formula. They should ask themselves WWBD? and then act accordingly.

Well, it's not about the loot and only the netas and hakims but we, the common folks should also ask WWBD and try to become a better person as well. Our hospitals and schools and vegetable and transport byapars loot us all and so far either we complain to ourselves and not to the concerned government authorities or we just try to fight and then most of the time, we lose because there is no one to listen to us.

From now onwards, do not fight or even complain to yourself. Well, first file a complaint with the local bodies and then the concerned authorities. Would Buddha Do that? I think so. But do not do it alone, because this is Nepal and one man army will always lose the battle but if you can get a dozen or more then you are likely to win the war against the loot by our shady byaparis.

Maybe it's time we all got together and pitched in and opened our own schools, our own hospitals and our own vegetable shops and long route bus companies as well. If we can make it a not-for-profit company, then we can finally get the affordable healthcare, education, food and transportation as well.

Yes, we expect the Balen government to do the same but we have to understand that 35+ years of loot have left the government with US$ 20 billion in debt and no savings. It will take them a while maybe 5 or 10 years before we see affordable everything in this land.

Until then, let's give it a shot at funding our own stuff maybe and who knows in a decade, we don't need the government's money for our schools, hospitals and transportation and more. The government can use that savings to invest in infrastructure, hydropower and more research and development on our local herbs and making us a food-exporting nation once again like in our grandmothers' time!

We are Buddha's children. Let's act like one!
