I have a F1 visa and my wife is a dependent. Can anyone suggest me if there are any tax exemptions I can claim ? A legal way to get maximum tax back.

For five calendar years you have to file tax return as single (if you are on F1). You can claim exemptions for dependents only after that.

Apply for ITIN number ; once you file tax as straight 1040 or 1040 NR , you will get 1 personal exemption for your spouse, your filing status will change from single to married filing Jointly. You will save some bucks.
